Karl Lundeberg
The Washington Post once described Karl Lundeberg as a "musical alchemist." His career in music both as a performer and as a composer stretches the concept of eclectic and is indicative of an artist whose view of music is one which is all inclusive. There are few genres of music in which Karl Lundeberg has not been active and few mediums where his work has not been heard. From contemporary classical to jazz to world music to rock to avant garde to traditional Norwegian folk music.....from performing to making records to composing music for film, television, radio, theatre and ballet.
As a CBS/Sony recording artist Mr. Lundeberg released four albums with his jazz/world music group FullCircle and performed throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Brazil. He has performed and/or recorded with such jazz legends as Miroslav Vitous, Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez, Alex Acuna, Branford Marsalis, Gilberto Gil, and Gladys Knight.
As a composer of classical music his works have been heard at Symphony Hall in Boston, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and at prestigious festivals worldwide including the Perugia Festival (Italy), the Mitsui Festival (Japan), the Biennale Festival (Venice, Italy), the Next Wave Festival (New York) and the San Sebastian Festival (Spain).
From 1994 through 2004 Karl Lundeberg was the composer in residence at the Mark Taper Forum Theater at the Los Angeles Music Center. Other theater music includes scores for American Repertory Theater (Boston), Seattle Repertory Theater, South Coast Repertory Theater (Los Angeles), Trinity Repertory Theater (Providence), Ahmanson Theater (Los Angeles), American Conservatory Theater (San Franscisco), Kennedy Center (Washington DC), Pan Asian Repertory Theater (New York), Arizona Theater Company, Geffen Theater (Los Angeles), Center Stage (Baltimore), Mark Taper Forum (Los Angeles), Taper/Kirk Douglas Theater (Los Angeles), Portland Center Stage, Schubert Theater/Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Old Globe Theater (San Diego), and Shakespeare Company Harmon Center for the Arts (Washington, DC). Mr Lundeberg has composed scores and worked with Sir Peter Hall, Julie Taymor, Ariel Dorfman, Brian Bedford, Donald Sutherland,David Hare, Andre Serban, Robert Brustein, Susan Sontag, Steve Martin, and Al Pacino.
Television and film music includes scores for Paramount pictures, Imagine Films, and all the major TV studios.
Mr. Lundeberg is currently a writing partner with the legendary songwriter Gerry Goffin.
Karl Lundeberg holds a BA from Middlebury College, an Artist's Diploma from Berklee College of Music, and a Masters degree from New England Conservatory of Music. He has studied with John Cage, Gary Burton, George Russel and William Thomas Mckinley.
